Facebook VR: Is it Stupid, or What?

So, you probably didn’t know, unless you’re some tech geek, that Facebook has purchased the king of all that is virtual reality technology: Oculus. Sounds weird that they’d do that, but Facebook is always on the prowl for whatever they can find to keep them popular and on the tippy-top of the social media hierarchy.

But, like, how is Facebook going to even utilize VR tech?

I guess their plan is to combine the two, to make this bizarre VR world, where you can chill with your friends from good ol’ Facebook. Which, I feel, is mostly retarded, because if I wanted to hang with the unwashed masses from my profile’s friends list, I’d actually go out in the real world, and do it. Why the hell would i choose to pretend to hangout with my friends, and play virtual foosball, or whatever the hell there’s even to do, rather than going and enjoying my pals’ real company, in the flesh?

Hm, seems like it could be pretty lame.

Well, yeah, it totally could be lame, as with anything. My main thing is, what purpose does it have? Like, I can talk with my friends through Messenger, texting, calling, and even FaceTime/Skype, if i wanted to actually see their faces. And, when I want to play games with my buddies, i can just send them a request from WordsWithFriends, or, I don’t know, go to their house, and physically engage in an activity with them. Plus, the benefit with stuff like WordsWithFriends, is that you’re not having to sit there, and keep playing from start to finish, like you would with games in real life. You just play your turn whenever you’re free to, and that’s that. So, with this VR thing, I’m supposed to sit alone in my room with the goggles on, and virtually bore myself to death playing fake Monopoly with someone for 10 hours? That’s super dumb, especially since i can do that anytime in the real world, and even dumber since we already came up with a much easier, and less boring, way to play with friends, by using the regular Facebook games, or applications on our phones.

Wow, kinda sounds like you really don’t like it, Chase!

It’s not that i don’t like it, it’s just I’m having a hard time seeing the point. Like, one of the only things I’d use this for, is to “see” friends who live super far away, and that’s just if they don’t have FaceTime, or something. The only thing i’d for sure use it for, is to watch movies on it, while connected with my friends, which is actually a pretty cool idea to me. Other than that, it just seems like it’d be boring to use. Like, maybe it’d be fun to use at first, because everyone’s new to all this VR technology stuff, and you even get to create your own virtual avatar, that your friends will see you as. But, once its novelty wears off, I feel like nobody would really use it.

That’s just me, though. Who knows? It could end up being, like, the coolest thing ever, and even i could end up being its’ #1 fan. I mean, I seriously doubt it, but, yeah, I’ve seen crazier sh*t happen.
