Reacting to mass shootings in the news

While all the mass shootings lately definitely bring up feelings of sadness for those who tragically lost their lives, it also brings up the need for better public safety, as well as better awareness.

Events being held with large groups of people should always have some form of weapon detection, be it metal detectors, or what have you. Literally, just anything that will protect the masses from completely unnecessary violence. It’s getting to the point where I’m just not going to even attend any sort of public occasion unless it has adequate protection against sh*t like this. I’m positive that’ll be the same story for a lot of us, as it should be. I mean, no club, concert, or anything is ever going to be worth your own safety or life. All of us should come together and make it a requirement for venues to start using things like metal detectors, especially when that place is packed with large amounts of innocent lives. This alone would help to shelter us from attackers, and very possibly reduce the occurrences of violent assaults with weapons. However, metal detectors, and similar, can only do so much. What about when you’re outside of the venue, just walking down the street, or something?

Well, that’s when our awareness should kick in. If we see someone acting strangely, we shouldn’t just ignore it. Citizens in West Hollywood were being aware, which led to the arrest of a man with guns and explosive material in his possession. Just think, if they’d paid no mind to him being unusual, of the countless lives that could have been taken that day. Being conscious of your surroundings doesn’t only benefit yourself, but everyone around you. With the death toll rising in mass killings each year, we as a national community need to look out for one another. Noticing, but then ignoring peculiar behavior is potentially putting you and those near you in danger. If something isn’t right, you should alert the authorities, and people in the same vicinity, to the suspicious person. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it is always better to be safe than sorry. If we don’t do something, more tragic massacres will assuredly happen.

At least, with more metal detectors in highly populated locations, as well as just being more conscious to our environment surrounding us, we could prevent so much disaster and death. So, we just need to amp up our public safety protocols, and protect one another by reporting suspicious behavior.

This will hopefully bring down the occurrences of senseless mass killings along with the sadness thereafter, and help us all over the country feel safer in public.
